Chinese Puzzle: A Tangle of Space in the Shanghai Shikumen Type
Peter Wong will present design-research investigating the history, recuperation, and potential modification of a traditional Shanghai 20th century urban house type. He recently served as a Visiting Scholar at Tongji University's College of Architecture and City Planning. Peter Wong is an architect and has taught architectural design, history, and theory since 1988. He is a recipient of a 1996 Design Excellence Award given by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) and was recognized with a Merit Award in 2004 by the Charlotte AIA Chapter for a workshop and guest house completed in 2003. His written scholarship includes a translated edition of Vittorio Gregotti’s essay, Inside Architecture (The MIT Press, 1996), as well as journal writing that explores the meaning and use of architectural drawing techniques. He recently received an honorable mention with his colleague Jeff Balmer for “Writing Architecture in Six Genres,” an undergraduate writing seminar, as part of the ACSA’s Creative Achievement Award Program for 2010.
Peter Wong received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
