Ken Lambla has served as Dean since 2002, leading the study and organizational initiative to create the College of Arts + Architecture. He holds the B.Environmental Design degree from the University of Kansas and the Master of Architecture degree from the University of California at Berkeley. A licensed architect, he has practiced in North Carolina, Chicago (Illinois), San Francisco, and Northern Ireland. His work has focused on housing, urban design/community development, institutional programming and educational facilities planning and design. His teaching focuses on design methods, creative leadership, architectural design, and social history.

Dr. Lee Gray is an Associate Professor in the SoA and Associate Dean in the CoA+A. He received his Ph.D. in architectural history from Cornell, Masters in architectural history from Virginia, and undergraduate architecture degrees from Iowa State. He is the author of From Ascending Rooms to Express Elevators: A History of the Passenger Elevator in the 19th Century. Since 2003 he has written monthly articles on the history of vertical transportation for Elevator World. Current projects include a history of escalators and moving sidewalks and a history of AIA Charlotte. He has appeared on the History Channel in Modern Marvels Building a Skyscraper and will appear in the forthcoming PBS program: NOVA: The Secret Life of Elevators (Spring 2010).

Christopher Jarrett is Professor and Director of the School of Architecture. His research and teaching traverses a wide range of environmental design issues, including green building theory, eco-tectonics, and sustainable building technology. He recently received the BP Solar Award for Innovation in the 2007 Solar Decathlon Competition, an AIA regional COTE Award, and an Outstanding Interdisciplinary Research Award. He has significant international teaching and program directorship experience. He is the author of over 30 articles and papers, has won numerous design awards, and his design work has been published in Japan Architect, Architecture, Progressive Architecture, and Interior Design.

Eldred Hudson joined UNC Charlotte in Fall 1988, and was instrumental in developing initial curriculum for the Graphic Design program. Professor Hudson has worked in the corporate graphic design/visual communications field for over 28 years, gaining experience that informs his teaching and research. He currently remains involved in client-based projects, and in the creation of mixed media artworks for exhibition. Hudson attended Furman University for two years, and later received a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Georgia, and an MFA from Boston University. In June 2009, he accepted the position of Chair of the Department of Art & Art History. He teaches Graphic Design Methods, Communications Design, and Graphic Design Projects.

Professor Sofras, BFA in Dance (The Juilliard School) ,MEd (Lehigh University). Affiliated with the American Dance Festival since 1978, she was founding director of its Young Dancers School. She was a founding member of the National Dance Education Organization and served on the editorial board of the Journal of Dance Education. Currently, Educational Curriculum Consultant for the North Carolina Dance Theatre receiving grant awards to develop innovative curriculum materials for that organization as well as Ballet Met in Ohio. Awards for her service to dance in education include the NC Dance Alliance Award, and the Vision Award from the National Dance Education Organization. Her book, Dance Composition Basics, was published by Human Kinetics in 2006.

Dr. Lumpkin holds degrees in music education from the University of North Texas and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance from Oklahoma University. He is known nationally as a trombonist, clinician, and adjudicator, and was the principal tenor tuba and bass trumpet player with the Dallas (TX) Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years. He has performed with other orchestras in Texas, New York, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Louisiana and North Carolina; and has appeared as a trombone soloist or clinician in Oklahoma, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., Kansas, Idaho, New York, Oregon, Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Canada, Taiwan, and Germany. An active member of the International Trombone Association, Dr. Lumpkin served as President of this worldwide organization from 1990-1992.

James Vesce is a director, musical director, composer, and sound designer and has directed community-based, university, and professional theater regionally and nationally. His areas of interest and expertise include postmodern theater and performance, the direction and creation of new and experimental work in theater and musical theater, and community-based performance. James is presently Associate Professor of Directing and Chair of the Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC). He holds a BA from Loyola University, an MTS from Harvard Divinity School, and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
