The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) is a college and university resource with holdings of approximately 70,000 digital images and 86,000 analog images. The VRC exists to support the curricular needs for images of the College of Arts & Architecture. Established in 1979, the collection has expanded to meet the needs of the art and architecture history courses and seminars, the studio classes, building technology, and elective courses for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Image holdings include collections for major historical periods from the time of ancient and prehistoric cultures through the twenty-first century.
Images are collected through personal and published photography and the purchase of commercial materials. The VRC holds and maintains the slide collection, which is open and available forty hours per week; the digital collection is available electronically, so remote access to the database is possible. The collection is organized and cataloged following the VRA Core and CCO guidelines established by the Visual Resources Association. Approximately 12,000 digital images are added to the collection each year.
The Visual Resources Collection is open between 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The VRC is located within the Charles C. Hight Architecture Library in the Storrs Building, and operates according to the University Library hours and regulations except as noted herein.
