The School of Architecture presents a lecture by Finnish architect Johanna Hurme of the Canadian firm 5468796 Architecture. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Hurme is a co-founder of the 12-person firm, 5468796, located in Winnipeg. Their projects include the iconic OMS stage at the centre of Winnipeg’s Exchange District and a series of highly praised multi-family residential projects, including the recently completed youCUBE (pictured), which received a 2016 Prairie Design Award of Merit. In 2013, 5468796 received the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Emerging Architectural Practice Award, recognizing them for the quality of their work, its combination of playfulness and rigor, and for the ways in which they engage with contemporary issues of architecture and urbanism.
Hurme came to Canada during the mid 90’s, graduated with a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Manitoba and worked for several years in Winnipeg prior to establishing 5468796 Architecture with Sasa Radulovic in 2007. She has taught design at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, since 2007. In 2010 she received a Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Emerging Business.
