Event Date(s):
November 16, 2017 - 6:30 PM
UNC Charlotte Center City

In anticipation of the December 3 performance of Defiant Requiem - Verdi at Terezin, the College presents a screening of the acclaimed documentary Defiant Requiem on November 16 at UNC Charlotte Center City. Defiant Requiem - The Documentary tells the story of rehearsals and performances of Verdi's Requiem by prisoners in the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto during the Holocaust. This feature-length film was screened on PBS in 2013 and in 2014 was nominated for two News and Documentary Emmy Awards: Outstanding Historical Documentary Long Form and Outstanding Writing.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. James Grymes, chair of the Department of Music and author of Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour (HarperCollins, 2014), and Dr. John Cox, director of the UNC Charlotte Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights.

On December 3 at 2:00 pm, the University Chorale and special guest artists will perform the concert-drama Defiant Requiem - Verdi at Terezin in the Belk Theater in Robinson Hall. For details, please click here.
