Monday, February 27, 2017

Je'Nen M. Chastain, an alumna of the UNC Charlotte School of Architecture, has received a 2017 Associates Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). According to the AIA, the national award “is given to individual Associate AIA members to recognize outstanding leaders and creative thinkers for significant contributions to their communities and the architecture profession.”

Chastain graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2009 after serving as the national president of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). She was the first female to serve in that role in a decade. She was the 2016 chair of the AIA Center for Civic Leadership and received a 2016 Presidential Citation from AIA California Council.

Chastain is a designer with Heller Manus Architects in San Francisco. This spring (2017) she will receive her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Mills College Graduate School of Business and Public Policy in Oakland, CA.

Chastain was one of four 2017 AIA Associates Award recipients. Read the full announcement from the AIA here and a recent interview with her here, as part of the AIAS: 60th Legacy project.
