The City.Building.Lab in the UNC Charlotte School of Architecture joins with the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Department of Interior Architecture and Center for Community-Engaged Design to present Urban Complexities: Affordable Housing and Neighborhood Erasure. The full-day symposium will be held at UNC Charlotte Center City.
Held in conjunction with the UNCG Novem Mason Symposium on Community-Engaged Design, the public symposium on Friday, March 31, follows a full day of student workshops in local communities in Greensboro and Charlotte. Reports from their experiences and panel discussions will address issues of housing access, neighborhood history, and urban development using community-engaged design methods that value local knowledge of place and history equally with professional expertise.
Panelists include John Howard from the Charlotte Historic District Commission, Ely Portillo from the Charlotte Observer, Dionne Nelson of Laurel Street Residential, Nadia Anderson of the UNC Charlotte City.Building.Lab, Travis Hicks of the UNCG Center for Community-Engaged Design, Jose Hernandez Paris of the Latin American Coalition, and Liz Clasen - Kelly, Executive Director of the Men's Shelter of Charlotte.
