How did you become interested in the arts? How old were you when you began making art? How did you choose your particular major?
I've been interested in art ever since I was a little girl. My brother is an artist, and when I was growing up I wanted to participate in everything that he did. Throughout middle and high school, art was still a major interest; however, when I graduated and applied to UNC Charlotte, I did so as a computer science major because it was the more "practical" choice. After completing several classes within the major, I realized that I wasn't happy with what I was doing and decided to turn to art once more. I then enrolled into art education, and while I didn't stay in art ed, it was a necessary step that brought me closer to where I am today. Currently, I am in Print Media and I feel as though I have finally found my niche. Print media is something I wasn't really exposed to prior to UNC Charlotte, so after taking the intro course here I immediately fell in love with the processes and all the various types of printmaking there are.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to eventually get my masters and work as a print professor. Along the way, I also see myself working in an art museum or a print shop setting.
What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the Department of Art & Art History?
My favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture, as well as the department of art & art history is that we are all encouraged to form meaningful connections with both the staff and fellow students around us. This program has provided me with a productive and inspiring community that is always supportive and continually pushes me to do my best.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
While I do spend the majority of my time working on assignments, I think it is just as important to make time for my personal work. In addition to this, I enjoy spending time with those closest to me as well as looking for new places to explore and appreciate away from home.
