How did you become interested in music?

I began taking piano lessons at the age of 6, and continued taking them until I became interested in the flute when I was 12 years old. I shifted my focus to the flute, and played in the ensembles offered by my school; however, I didn't begin studying with a private teacher until I reached college.

Do you have a favorite composer?

Claude Debussy. His pieces are so enticing and luxurious - I fell in love with his work after listening to "The Girl With the Flaxen Hair", and have been fascinated ever since.

What are your plans when you graduate? What kind of career do you hope to have?

After receiving my Bachelor's degree, I would love to further my education and study at a graduate school. As far as my career is concerned, it's my dream to perform with a symphony orchestra and maintain a private studio were I can share my ideas with students.

What is your favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture?

I love the sense of community felt by the students. Every person I have met so far in the music program has wanted nothing but success for their peers, which is both comforting and inspiring. There's always someone to turn to for advice, help with projects, or even someone who will take a few minutes to listen to a piece you've been working on to figure out exactly what it is that can take you to the next level.

When you are not in class, studying, working or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?

Recently, I've found that exercise is a good way to keep my head clear and maintain focus for my goals. (Not to mention that running is a great way to improve breath control/support, which has been a huge help with my musical endeavors!)
