Michael Swisher is currently Associate Professor at the School of Architecture at UNC Charlotte. His involvement with foundation studies extends across a 30-year teaching career. His primary teaching responsibilities include first year studio and skills, as well as visual studies electives. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and the Massachusetts College of Art, he has exhibited his paintings commercially for over two decades. He has co-authored or authored papers in philosophy of mind and foundation pedagogy. Swisher’s most recent publications are a small book for his institution on the curriculum and sequence of studies in the foundation program of the first semester and a co-authored book with Jeffrey Balmer, Diagramming the Big Idea (Routledge, 2012).
