Admissions Process

For questions regarding the admissions process, please contact SoA-Admissions@charlotte.edu or Undergraduate Program Director Greg Snyder at gsnyder@charlotte.edu.

Admission to the BA in Architecture program in the David R. Ravin School of Architecture is a competitive, Fall-only process. Most high school and transfer students applying to the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture are applying to join the first year architectural studio sequence. Only students who have completed the 74-credit Associate of Applied Science Degree - Architectural Technology - UNCC Transfer Track (A40100T) at Central Piedmont Community College by May 2024 will be eligible to apply for the third year advanced standing track, which will start in August 2023. Please note that completing this degree at CPCC does not guarantee admittance to UNC Charlotte's David R. Ravin School of Architecture. The application process is competitive and not all qualified applicants will be offered admissions.

All applicants without an AAS in Arch Technology-Transfer Track from CPCC, regardless of associates degree or previous architectural coursework, must apply for the first year track.

To be accepted into the School of Architecture requires two separate application and admission processes as detailed below. For applicants already enrolled as a student at UNC Charlotte, skip to step 2 below (first year track).

Step 1: Application to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (all applicants not already enrolled at UNC Charlotte):

  • First apply to UNC Charlotte prior to January 31st.

  • Designate "Architecture" as intended major.

  • Pay the UNC Charlotte application fee.

  • Monitor your UNC Charlotte application to ensure that all supplemental materials (test scores, transcripts, recommendations, etc.) are received by the admissions deadline.

Step 2: Application to the First-Year track in the School of Architecture (SoA) (most applicants):

Step 2: Applicaton to the Third Year track in the School of Architecture (SoA) (only applicants who will have an AAS Arch Technology-Transfer Track from CPCC by May 2024):

Individual Interviews

Based on a review of your academic standing and SoA application portfolio, you may be selected for an individual interview. During the 30-minute virtual interview you will be asked to discuss work presented through your digital portfolio. If selected, you will receive further instructions on how to schedule an interview. Keep in mind the process is competitive and not all students are selected for an interview.

Final Decisions

Applicants must be admitted to UNC Charlotte before they can be admitted to the SoA. If an applicant does not get selected for an interview, they will be not be selected for admission to the program. If you are not admitted to the SoA, your acceptance to the University remains unchanged. You may still choose to enroll at UNC Charlotte and pursue another course of study. You may also choose to reapply for admission the following year. Final decisions regarding admission to the SoA or placement on the waitlist will be made before May 1st. A limited number of applicants from the waitlist may be notified of acceptance over the summer if seats become available. All decisions will be communicated via email.

For questions regarding the admissions process, please contact SoA-Admissions@charlotte.edu or Undergraduate Program Director Greg Snyder at gsnyder@charlotte.edu.
