Undergraduate Admissions

Admission to the School of Architecture is competitive and requires two separate admission processes:  1) Admission to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and 2) Admission to the School of Architecture (SoA).  When applying to the university, please designate “Architecture” as your intended major and submit all required materials (such as test scores, application fees and transcripts) by November 1st or February 1st (applies to both incoming freshman and transfers).  For more information about applying to UNC Charlotte, go to admissions.uncc.edu.

Bachelor of Arts in Architecture Admissions

Approximately one week after the payment of your university application fee, you will receive an email notification from imagenowsoa@uncc.edu with access information for our online SoA Application.  Early applicants who have completed both the university and the SoA applications are given priority in the SoA admission process.  Therefore, you should complete and submit your UNC Charlotte and SoA Applications prior to the following deadlines:

  • Priority Review: November 1st
  • Standard Review: December 1st
  • Final Review: February 1st

SoA Applications submitted after February 1st will be considered if there are seats available.  Currently enrolled UNC Charlotte Students can access the SoA Application by emailing soa-admissions@uncc.edu using their UNCC email address.

Based on a review of your academic standing and SoA Application, you may be selected for an individual interview during an Open House / Interview event.  At the Open House, you will learn about the SoA through an information session, a tour of the building and facilities, and small group discussions with students and faculty.  You will also have a thirty-minute individual interview, during which you will be asked to discuss work presented through a digital portfolio.  The digital portfolio is a part of the online application process and a guide to creating a portfolio may be found here: Portfolio Guidelines

Portfolios should contain examples of creative work, which may include traditional forms of art (such as freehand drawing, graphic design, painting, and sculpture) or other forms of creative expression (such as carpentry, craft, ceramics, dance, film-making, model-making, music, poetry, and set/costume design). Photography may be included if it represents work created as an artistic product (as compared to travel photos). Applicants will receive email invitations if they have been selected for an interview during one of our Undergraduate Open Houses.

Open House Events for 2018-19 will be hosted on the following dates:
  • November 16th
  • January 18th
  • February 15th

Final decisions regarding admission to the SoA will be made on or before April 16th.  Important: Applicants must be admitted to UNC Charlotte before they will be admitted to the SoA.  If you apply to the SoA, but your application to UNC Charlotte remains "incomplete" after February 1st, you will no longer be eligible for admission to the School of Architecture (applies to both incoming freshman and transfers).  Please monitor your UNC Charlotte application in your Future 49er Portal to verify that all admission materials (test scores and transcripts) have been received no later than February 1st.  The SoA admits applicants for the fall semester only.  If you are not admitted to the SoA, your acceptance to the University remains unchanged.  Many applicants who are initially denied admission to the SoA choose to enroll at the university and reapply to the SoA the following year.

For questions regarding the admissions process, please email SoA-admissions@uncc.edu.
