UNC Charlotte architecture students actively participate in a range of student organizations within the SoA.
American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS)
AIAS is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to providing unmatched programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architectural education. The mission of the AIAS is to promote excellence in architectural education, training, and practice; to foster an appreciation of architecture and related disciplines; to enrich communities in a spirit of collaboration; and to organize students and combine their efforts to advance the art and science of architecture. Please visit the AIAS UNC Charlotte chapter website.
National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS)
The SoA also has an active chapter of NOMAS, in which students are dedicated to addressing issues of concern to underrepresented groups and providing a forum for action and networking. NOMAS students participate in design competitions each year, and have received national recognition for their work.
Freedom by Design (FBD)
FBD is an AIAS community service program that puts the design and construction talents of students from the SoA to work in the community addressing issues of accessibility and quality-of-life for local Charlotte-area residents in need.
Arts + Architecture Honors Program (AAHP)
The interdisciplinary honors program provides enriched academic and extracurricular experiences for the SoA's most academically successful, talented, and motivated undergraduate students. SoA students study, research, and share experiences with students from the outer units of the College of Arts + Architecture, including majors in Art & Art History, Dance, Music, and Theatre.
Tau Sigma Delta
The SoA also has student members of Tau Sigma Delta, the national architecture honor society that recognizes students with exemplary academic performance in architectural education.
