The Department of Music Faculty & Friends Concert Series presents the Faculty Jazz Quintet performing the music of Horace Silver.
Pianist Horace Silver (1928-2014) began his career with Stan Getz, then played with luminaries such as Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, and Miles Davis. In the early 1950s, he joined drummer Art Blakey to form The Jazz Messengers and was a key figure in the development of hard bop. Silver formed his own quintet in the late 50s and wrote a number of pieces that have become jazz standards. The program on October 28 includes “The Jody Grind,” "Nica's Dream" and "Summer in Central Park," among others.
The Faculty Jazz Quintet features Will Campbell (saxophone), Michael Hackett (trumpet), Noel Freidline (piano), Ron Brendle (bass), and Rick Dior (percussion).
Tickets are $9 general admission; $7 seniors and UNC Charlotte faculty and staff; $6 all students.
