Odissi Summer Camp and Performance

Sensate Technicities: Odissi Odyssey

Update - Odissi Odyssey

As the Covid crisis continues across the country, UNC Charlotte has decided that Summer 2020 courses and camps will be taught on-line only. The Department of Dance has therefore cancelled the Odissi Odyssey: Summer Camp and Public Performance.

Though we are deeply saddened by this news, our acclaimed Odissi dance professor, Kausavi Sarkar, has generously offered to provide a three-part educational and professional development initiative as part of The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY).

The Society is a voluntary youth movement that promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture. They have agreed  to help in promotion as well as certification of this initiative.

The three-part educational and professional development initiative is as follows:

April 27 - May 1   9am - 11 am   -  Fundamentals of Movement
May 25 - 29         9 am -11 am  -   The Creative Process
July 6 – 10           9 am - 11 am -   Investigations of the Canon
On completion of all three sessions and review of all three online evaluations, SPICMACAY will provide a certification of merit.
Dr. Sarkar will share support materials with participants (PDFs and video clips) prior to the start of class in a Google drive. We are grateful for your patience and understanding and hope that this serves as a small gesture of appreciation to our community.
Refunds for the original camp will be processed within one week.  Please contact Wendy Fishman if you have questions or concerns.
If you’re interested in participating in this on-line Odissi offering, please complete this Google form so we have the correct emails for inviting to the WebEx class meeting.
It's our strong belief that after this crisis passes, it will be more important than ever to join together with those of like minds and hearts, to support one another and bring joy back to our communities.
