The Department of Music Jazz Studies program presents the 2019 49er Jazz Festival. Middle and high school bands from six regional schools will perform for adjudicators and receive coaching from clinicians. The UNC Charlotte Jazz Ensemble will close the day with a free performance at 3:45 pm in the Anne R. Belk Theater.
This year's adjudicators are saxophonist Tim Ishii, director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas Arlington, and trombonist/violinist Evan Ringel, who is an adjunct professor in the Department of Music. Festival clinicians are Dr. Will Campbell, director of the UNC Charlotte Jazz Studies program, and Wally West, co-founder and administrative director of The Piedmont Triad Jazz Orchestra and professor of Jazz Studies at Gardner-Webb University.
