Blurred Lines: A Panel Discussion on Reimagining Opera

In partnership with Opera Carolina, the Department of Music presents Blurred Lines: A Panel Discussion on Reimagining Opera. The panel will include Douglas Tappin, composer and librettist of the opera I Dream; actor/singer Derrick Davis (I Dream, Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King); and Opera Carolina education director Ashley Lam. 

The panel discussion has been organized by Dr. Sequina DuBose, assistant professor of classical and contemporary voice. Her research is centered on the impact of genre fusion and improvisation in 21st-century operas on vocal pedagogy and performance practice, and her performing interests span to include many contemporary styles, including musical theater and African-American folk music.
