The Department of Theatre presents The Questioning Justice Project, a TYA/Applied Theatre Lab production devised and directed by Beth Murray. The Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA)/Applied Theatre Lab is an emerging initiative in the Department of Theatre to foster space for students and faculty who are interested in innovation and exploration to create bold new work that serves young audiences and/or utilizes the community-forward, multi-voiced strategies of applied theatre.
Questioning Justice culminates a semester-long applied theatre course where the class ensemble asked: What is justice? What are the many forms of justice? How does justice work, and not work? Who has an obligation to uphold, honor but also question justice? Where do we get our ideas about justice? What are the consequences of generational injustice? Who is ultimately responsible, really? These questions got asked,—researched and answered—through theatre-based activity among classmates and in local communities. The production particularly targets the young-adult audience, ages 15-25.
