CriticalMASS is a graduate student-led annual symposium of architectural design and research projects by thesis-level students from Schools of Architecture across the country. CriticalMASS Student Presentations will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This year's Distinguished Visiting Critic is Laurie Hawkinson.

NC Museum of Art Amphiltheatre

Laurie Hawkinson is a partner at Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects and Professor of Architecture at Columbia University.  Based in New York, SM+H works across a range of scales, from architecture and urban design to exhibitions, objects and products.  They engage in both public and private projects including museums, parks, transportation terminals, performing arts spaces, private residences, government facilities, installations, and furniture.  Collaborative projects include the Masterplan and Amphitheater for the North Carolina Museum of Art with artist Barbara Kruger and landscape architect Nicholas Quennell.  She has held visiting adjunct faculty positions at SCI-Arc, Harvard University, Yale University, Parsons School of Design, and the University of Miami.  Laurie Hawkinson holds a Master in Fine Arts from UC Berkeley and a professional degree in architecture from The Cooper Union.
