The Department of Music partners with Steinway Piano Gallery Charlotte to present Songs from Theresienstadt: Music of Humor, Hope, and Resistance in a Nazi Camp.  The free lecture recital explores the legacy of the Jewish composers and artists held in the Theresienstadt ghetto during the Holocaust. Dr. Alissa Deeter, associate professor of voice, and staff pianist Erin Palmer will perform works by Weber, Roman, and Ullman, as well as a series of contrafact songs with supporting commentary by Dr. James A. Grymes, chair of the music department and author of Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind's Darkest Hour.

This event is presented in conjuntion with the December 3 performance of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin.
