Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in dance? How old were you when you began dancing?
I became interested in dance after watching my older sister take dance classes when she was little. I was fascinated as I watched the classes and my parents eventually decided to sign me up for tap and jazz. At first, I danced for fun. While I still find joy in it, dance has since developed into a form of self-expression for me.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
My goal is to have a career that combines my degrees of dance and English. With that being said, I would love to work for a dance magazine or do something with dance writing!
What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the department you are in?
It’s no secret that UNC Charlotte is a large school. Being in the Department of Dance has allowed me to surround myself with likeminded individuals within the big campus, and be a part of a great community of talented people.
Do you participate in any community cultural activities or work in the Charlotte arts or design community? If so, please describe.
I’m the Co-President and Treasurer of MOVE Dance Alliance, which is one of the student organizations within the Department of Dance. We have showcases each semester and provide performance opportunities for UNCC students to present their choreography. I’m also the Treasurer for a new organization on campus that is associated with the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and we will be putting on various dance community service events throughout the year!
When you are not in class, studying, working or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?
I love going to Uptown and walking around the city, finding new coffee shops to read and hang out at, and seeing different shows that are going on. I’m a big city person, and there is always something happening in Charlotte!
