Bachelor of Music, Instrumental Performance
Give a little general information about yourself: How did you become interested in music?
I always enjoyed listening to music as a child and was aware of how certain songs could make me feel a certain way. When I was around 10 years old, I played the video game Rockband, which was kind of like Guitar Hero, but there was a full band. So I was able to "play" the drums on a video game and it made me want to play an actual drum set. I begged my parents for one until they finally succumbed... and here we are 11 years later.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have a career in freelance work as a studio/session player, playing in an orchestra, having my own private teaching studio, and hopefully teaching at a university one day.
What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about the Department of Music is the faculty. I've learned so much not only just from taking classes, but also just building relationships with my professors to where some of them have become mentors. It's a great feeling knowing you have people in your corner who really want you to succeed. I have also created friendships with fellow colleagues that will last a lifetime. It's not something you always get the privilege of having when you're in a larger department.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I'm not in class, I'm either practicing or hanging out with friends and discussing music. No matter what I do outside of school, I always try to make sure I am being productive with my time. I do enjoy cooking, and playing video games from time to time.
