Give a little general information about yourself: How did you become interested in music and art?
From a very young age, I have always enjoyed the act of creating. I expressed this love mostly through painting, photography, sketching, writing, music, and occasionally knitting and crocheting! For me, there was nothing like spending several hours in an afternoon to paint with watercolors, or to have an adventure in the woods with my camera. I also loved my academics. I marveled at God’s creation as I studied science and I was practically obsessed with history, which contributed to my interest in art history when I was deciding on a major. I can easily say that art history incorporates everything I love to study and talk about--it’s a pretty dense area of study! I also chose to major in music because it has had a significant role in my development as a person. I was introduced to the violin when I was seven years old, and most definitely had some ups and downs with this instrument, just like we all do with the skills we are daily honing! Overall, practicing/performing has cultivated self-discipline, self expression, and many other skills that I would otherwise not have.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I am currently interested in museum work. What fascinates me most is everything that goes on behind the scenes in a museum. If the opportunity arises, I would like to pursue a masters in art history or museum studies and hopefully obtain a position in collections management or archives. I would be so happy with a museum internship in my undergrad, at least! I will also continue to teach private violin lessons on the side and play gigs in the area.

What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the Department of Music, the Department of Art?
My favorite part of both departments is the faculty. I so admire and respect these people for their dedication and concern for me as a student, as well as their commitment to continue learning every day. In observing them, I see individuals who have worked tirelessly to be where they are now, and this work ethic alone is something I want to achieve.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I love taking long walks and galavanting around Charlotte, especially with my fiancé, who loves adventure as much as I do! Meeting up with people to talk over coffee during the week is something I’ve also come to love and believe is very important to incorporate in one’s schedule.
