Associate Professor of Voice Alissa Deeter, soprano, and pianist Arlene Shrut have recently released their new CD, Hier: Mélodies of Francis Poulenc on Centaur Records. This recording celebrates the French composer's mastery of art song. Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) possessed a profound ability to channel inspiration into a tapestry of singular uniqueness, producing the very essence of Poulenc in style, intelligence, and sophistication. Hier features five collections of songs, settings of poems by Poulenc's contemporaries Guillaume Apollinaire, Louise de Vilmorin, Max Jacob, and Maurice Careme.
Arlene Shrut serves on the senior coaching faculty of The Juilliard School’s Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts as well as the vocal-piano recital faculty at Manhattan School of Music. As a performer, she has collaborated with Renée Fleming, Thomas Hampson and Angela Meade, among others.
Alissa Deeter serves as the Coordinator of Applied Voice and the Graduate Coordinator of Vocal Pedagogy in the Department of Music at UNC Charlotte. She is the co-author of The Mélodies of Francis Poulenc: A Study Guide (Scarecrow Press, 2014).
