Volume of essays engages research from MUD summer program in Brazil.

José Gámez, associate professor and interim director of the School of Architecture, along with Zhongjie Lin (University of Pennsylvania) and Jeffery Nesbit (Harvard University), have co-edited a new manuscript, Rio de Janeiro: Urban Expansion and the Environment. Published through Routledge Press in July, the book represents the second volume of essays in relation to the Master of Urban Design program’s three summer research sessions based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 2015 through 2017.

The book’s 13 essays, written by faculty from UNC Charlotte, PUC-Rio’s Architecture and Urbanism program, and other universities in the U.S. and abroad, explore urbanism, urbanization, and climate change, providing insights into the contextual and environmental issues shaping Rio in the age of globalization.
