Students in Assistant Professor of Dance Tamara Williams's Afro-Brazilian dance class will perform with the Los Angeles-based troupe CONTRA-TIEMPO. The performances will take place November 7-9 at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in uptown Charlotte.
Founded in 2005, CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Theater is comprised of professional dancers and performers from varied styles, many of whom are immigrants or first generation Americans. Ten UNC Charlotte students will participate in the program "joyUS justUS," which fuses salsa, Afro-Cuban, hip-hop and contemporary dance with theatre and original music.
The students will also participate in a community choreographic session with the CONTRA-TIEMPO company members on November 5. For more information, please visit the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center website.
