Dance Students Present at State Research Symposium

Dance majors Makayla Church (dance education concentration) and Anna Edwards (dance performance, choreography, and theory concentration) presented research posters at the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium on Saturday, November 4, at Campbell University. Both presented research completed at UNC Charlotte as Charlotte Research Scholars. 

Church’s project, mentored by Associate Professor Gretchen Alterowitz, is titled "Breaking with Tradition: Critical Approaches to Ballet Pedagogy."  Edwards’s project, mentored by Assistant Professor Tamara Williams, is titled "Results of Resistance: Ring Shout Reconstruction and Documentation."

In addition, Church will attend the 2017 National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) conference in San Antonio, Texas, sponsored by the dance department. The coference, which takes place November 12-14, is the 19th annual NDEO conference and is devoted to "Cultivating Equity and Access: Dance Education for All."
