Department of Art & Art History Hosts Art Auction for Student Scholarships

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

The Department of Art & Art History presents an exhibition and auction of work by former professor Roderick MacKillop to support the Roderick MacKillop Memorial Endowments for student scholarships. On view at the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City, March 9-16, the work will be auctioned at a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, March 16.

Roderick MacKillop was a beloved art professor at UNC Charlotte for 30 years and a highly respected painter. In his memory, his family has generously established endowments to support two scholarships for art students.

MacKillop’s longtime colleague, friend, and fellow artist, Professor Emeritus Eric Anderson, has bequeathed a collection of Rod’s work to the Department of Art & Art History to augment those funds. That compelling collection will be auctioned on March 16; all proceeds will support the student scholarships.

“The generous financial gift from Rod’s family, and the revenue generated from the sale of his work, will have lasting significant impact on the lives of many emerging creative artists in our Department – individuals who, upon graduation, will become our future art advocates and art makers,” said Eldred Hudson, chair of the Department of Art & Art History. “To date, the combined contributions made in Rod’s memory will surpass all other individual scholarship resources supporting art majors.”
