Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture Jeffrey Nesbit's proposal, “Aquatic Resiliency,” has been named a finalist in the NYC Aquarium & Public Waterfront international design competition. Sponsored by arch out loud, the open idea competition attracted 565 participants with 178 proposals from 40 countries across six continents. Twenty-four projects were chosen for recognition, including three winning designs.
The jury included Martha Schwartz of Martha Schwartz Partners, Iannis Kandyliaris of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), Anna Pietrzak of Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), Danny Ha of the Jerde Partnership, Todd Degarmo of Studios Architecture, Edouard Cabay of Appareil (Barcelona) and James Hampton and Socrati Seritis of Peddle Thorp Architects.
The jurors recognized projects “that challenge the relationship between city and waterfront, using the aquarium program as an opportunity to bring the city and its people close to the water in a new way compared to traditional parks and aquariums.”
Nesbit designed “Aquatic Resiliency” in partnership with Michael Obot, a designer at the firm GreenbergFarrow.
