Theatre Professor Designed Lighting for CT Charlotte

Monday, February 15, 2016

Professor of Scenic and Lighting Design Bruce Auerbach recently designed the lighting for the Children's Theatre of Charlotte production of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Professor Auerbach has created stage designs for more than two hundred regional theatre and university productions for both theatre and dance. Though a versatile designer with broad interests, he’s often drawn to productions that evoke strong displays of emotion. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, based on the novel by Kate Dicamillo, is about a selfish toy china rabbit that continually gets ripped away form the children who love him. He must learn to love others as much as he loves himself. The play was directed by Dwayne Harford and performed at the Wells Fargo Playhouse from January 29 – February 13, 2016.

Recognized locally for his expertise, Professor Auerbach is also a frequent presenter for Charlotte cultural activities. In November 2015 he gave a presentation at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center’s Club Blume Informance for The Sound of Music.  His presentation at the McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square included a brief introduction to the musical and a discussion of set design. In December he was also a guest presenter for a Blumenthal Performing Arts Center event, Get to Know the Show: WICKED. His presentation included specific information on the musical Wicked, along with a discussion of scenery and lighting design for the stage.
