Robert Linton

Bachelor of Music
Class Year:
Charlotte, NC

How did you become interested in music?

I became interested in music at a very young age when my mother bought me a guitar. After that, I decided to stick with strings in middle school and played cello all the way to 3 semesters into college, where I decided to focus on Jazz and play Bass.

Do you have a favorite composer?

Currently, I would say my favorite composer is Kurt Rosenwinkel. He has a very modern approach to Jazz composition and is always striving to find that new sound. Check out his record "Caipi".

What are your plans when you graduate? What kind of career do you hope to have?

When I graduate, I hope to attend graduate school and earn my masters in Jazz Performance. Until then, I will be teaching private lessons and gigging in Charlotte.

What is your favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture?

My favorite thing about the College of Arts and Architecture is every professor wants you to succeed and wants you to improve. I have a long ways to go with my playing, but I would not be what I am without the professors I have had. I could not have asked for better professors.

When you are not in class, studying, working or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?

When I'm not in class, I'm either practicing or hanging out with my roommates and classmates. We play disc golf on the weekends or just hang out and listen to music. I also try to stay as active as I can on Charlotte's music scene.
