Associate Professor Emeritus Michael Swisher retired in 2020. His involvement with foundation studies extended across a 30-year teaching career. His primary teaching responsibilities included first year studio and skills, as well as visual studies electives. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and the Massachusetts College of Art, he exhibited his paintings commercially for over two decades. He co-authored or authored papers in philosophy of mind and foundation pedagogy. Swisher’s most recent publications were a small book for his institution on the curriculum and sequence of studies in the foundation program of the first semester and a co-authored book with Jeffrey Balmer, Diagramming the Big Idea (Routledge, 2012).
