Rachel Engstrom is the Costume Shop Manager and a Costume Designer for the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte. In addition, she does freelance costume design and construction as well as managing the costume shop for CPCC Summer Theatre. Her recent local credits include Costume Design for Memphis (Theatre Charlotte), James and the Giant Peach (CPCC Summer Theatre), and The Bridges of Madison County (Central Piedmont Community College). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, with an emphasis in Design and Technical Production, from Western Michigan University and a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design from California State University – Long Beach.

Having moved to Charlotte in January 2016, Ms. Engstrom previously taught and designed at the Academy for the Performing Arts in Huntington Beach, CA.  Her professional design work for theatre, dance, and other performing arts has been seen at the University of California – Irvine, Chapman University, OC Centric New Play Festival, and in Hollywood with companies such as Blank Theatre Company, New American Theatre, and Theatre of NOTE.  She proudly served as the company costume designer for Not Man Apart Physical Theatre Ensemble and Shakespeare Santa Monica.  

Ms. Engstrom has had extensive costume construction and crafts experience at many costume shops, including South Coast Repertory Theatre (Costa Mesa,CA), The Laguna Playhouse (Laguna Beach, CA), and American Players Theatre (Spring Green, WI).
