Seven current College of Arts + Architecture faculty members are among the recent recipients of grants from the local Arts & Science Council (ASC). Professor of Voice and Opera workshop Brian Arreola, Professor of Dance E.E. Balcos, Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance Audrey Baran, Associate Professor of Clarinet Jessica Lindsey, Assistant Professor of Trumpet Eric Millard, Associate Professor of Oboe Elizabeth Sullivan, and Associate Professor of Dance Tamara Williams are all recipients of the ASC 2024 Artist Support Grants.
Artist Support Grants support professional and artistic development for emerging and established artists to enhance their skills and abilities to create work or to improve their business operations and capacity to bring their work to new audiences.
Brian Arreola received $3,000 to fund a string quartet to perform his operatic work Zavala-Zavala.
E.E. Balcos received $3,000 to fund the participation in the Body-Mind Centering course on the Ligamentous and Fascial System in Lorraine, Oregon.
Audrey Baran received $3,000 to support teaching certification in MUNZ FLOOR, a somatic method utilizing spiral movement patterns and three-dimensional forces to facilitate spinal decompression and fascia regeneration.
Jessica Lindsey received $3,000 to support the editing and mastering of the CD, “Carolina Homegrown Melodies,” featuring works by local composers performed by Lindsey with the chamber ensemble, The Burnt Reeds.
Eric Millard received $3,000 to fund a diversity-focused brass trio commission and international premiere.
Elizabeth Sullivan received $2,750 to produce a sensory friendly concert program.
Tamara Williams received $3,000 to support the creation and presentation of a new choreographic work entitled “E ku Odun: A celebration of us!”
In addition to these five current faculty, alumni Kalin Devone ‘15 and Anna Edwards ‘18 and Adjunct Professor of Jazz Greg Jarrell also received Artist Support Grants to help them with personal projects.
