Christina Singer (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design from Ooltewah, TN. Her design practice and research center on equitable design research methods, illuminating queerness through visual design, human rights, investigating non-Western design and typography, and analyzing her pedagogical practice. Her designs have been exhibited in Spain, Ukraine, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, South Korea, China, and several states across the USA. Her poster designs have been awarded internationally, and she remains active in the industry by designing for select clients through her company Ody Design, LLC.
Singer is an active design researcher and writer. She has participated in two national writing fellowships, and has published works such as an article in the Society for Technical Communication’s Intercom magazine. Singer also disseminates her research at conferences. She has Chaired a range of sessions at national conferences and presented her research at ten conferences—ranging in scale from national to international—such as SECAC, HASTAC, CAA, and UCDA. Singer was selected to Co-Chair the 2024 UCDA Design Education Summit: Immerse in Mesa, Arizona. She was responsible for forming the review panel and overseeing the peer review process. Singer was also selected to host and Chair the 2025 UCDA Design Education Summit: Mindful at Charlotte.
She earned an MFA from the University of Florida and a BFA from East Tennessee State University. Singer started her career in editorial design, and was formerly the associate art director for EatingWell magazine in Vermont. Prior to pursuing her MFA, Singer also spent a year teaching English as a Foreign Language in Busan, South Korea, during which time she also took Korean language classes at Busan City Hall. Throughout her MFA, Singer worked as a designer for a student life department at UF. Her MFA thesis was a UX/UI design project that resulted in a native app prototype that connects retirees and refugees.
