How did you first get interested in music?
When the thought of college first crossed my mind, music was not in the cards at all. I have been playing trombone since 6th grade, but pursuing a career in it was never something I was really interested in. Growing up, animals and biology were my passions, and still are, as a result, I really wanted to get a double degree in zoology and marine biology. This was until I attended Cannon Music Camp the summer 2019. Going to that camp made me realize how deeply in love with music I really was. I completely shifted my mind to only wanting to focus on and pursue music, and that is what I ended up doing.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to pursue a career as a full time orchestral musician in one of the big orchestras in the country, or the world. I also hope to have a pretty large private teaching studio.
What is your favorite thing about the music department?
The department is very personalized for each person when it comes to faculty interaction and I really think that makes the environment that much more welcoming.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I help with the YOC, teach lessons in the area, and occasionally perform with the NC Brass Band.
Can you talk about your experience as a scholarship student?
I have the Belk Performing Arts scholarship, the Marching Band scholarship, and the Vickie and Gene Johnson marching band scholarship. All of these scholarships really help me when it comes to taking job opportunities, and in my grad school preparation.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy playing video games, and spending time with my pets!
