Antoine Williams, an alumnus of the Department of Art & Art History, has received a 2017 Painters & Sculptors Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation. The foundation awards grants annually to 25 “painters and sculptors creating work of exceptional quality." The artists, chosen by jury selection from a pool of nominees, each receive $25,000.
Williams received his BFA in Illustration from UNC Charlotte in 2003 and completed an MFA at UNC Chapel Hill in 2014. He is currently an assistant professor of art at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. His current work is in mixed-media and draws thematic comparisons between science fiction and the American Black experience.
This winter Williams will collaborate with Charlotte artist Marcus Kiser on a large mural at Charlotte's Urban Ministry Center as part of a project led by the McColl Center for Art + Innovation. Learn more about his work at his website.
