Give a little general information about yourself: How did you become interested in music? How old were you when you began making music? What made you decide to major in music?
Music was something I was always interested in when I was growing up. I remember always messing around on my uncle's keyboard for fun but it was never until middle school where I gave it a shot. I had heard my uncle played the drum set and that made me want to try percussion. It quickly became something I was passionate about and always joined as many ensembles as I could.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
After I receive my Bachelor's degree, I would love to continue my education and chase a Master's program at a graduate school. As for my career, It would be a dream come true to perform for a major symphony orchestra and share my experience and knowledge with students in a private studio.
What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the music department?
I really enjoy the camaraderie that the percussion studio has. We have created an environment that makes performing music and learning really enjoyable. The sense of family and encouragement I have received from professors and peers in this department is greatly appreciated.
Do you participate in any community cultural activities or work in the Charlotte arts community? If so, please describe.
I am an assistant for the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE), which is directed by Dr. Shawn Smith.
When you are not in class, studying, working or practicing/rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?
When the time is available I love to play disc golf, longboard and spend time with the ones I hold most dear. Lately, I've had an interest in drinking tea and trying all the flavors I can get my hands on.
