Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in dance? How old were you when you began dancing?
I started dancing when I was a toddler but I stopped when we moved. In my new hometown, I was nine when I told my mom I was interested in dancing again and luckily enough, a studio opened up in the next couple of months. From then on out, you could always find me in the studio after school!
What kind of career do you hope to have?
After I graduate, I hope to work in arts administration for a dance company.
What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the department you are in?
My favorite thing about the dance department is the community that the dancers made. All of the dancers are so supportive and encouraging, which creates the perfect environment to learn, experiment, and grow. I have found some of my closest friends in the dance department!
Do you participate in any community cultural activities or work in the Charlotte arts or design community? If so, please describe.
Last summer, I interned at Playing for Others which is a nonprofit in Charlotte that teaches teens about leadership and service through arts programming. I became very close with the staff and teens of the program and I have done my best to remain involved as much as I can throughout the semester. They have incredible performances and exhibitions in visual art, photography, theater, music, dance, and spoken word so I would highly recommend looking them up if you want something to do on the weekend to support local art!
When you are not in class, studying, working or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?
When I find some free time, I love to discover new coffee shops, get outside, or have movie nights with my friends!
