Give a little general information about yourself: how did you become interested in dance? How old were you when you began dancing?
When I was six years old, my grandma thought it would be fun for me to start taking dance classes, so I signed up at the nearest arts center, the Andy Griffith Playhouse, in the neighboring town of mine. I began taking ballet, tap, and jazz and quickly developed a passion for the art. A few years later, I transferred to a competitive studio and began training in other styles such as contemporary, modern, hip-hop, musical theatre, and clogging, continuously feeding my desire to expand my dance virtuosity.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
Upon graduation, I hope to be traveling and performing with the cruise ship industry! Once I tire of a life of travel, I am interested in doing administrative work for the Christian outreach organization, YoungLife.

What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the department you are in?
My favorite thing about the Department of Dance is the community that we have. The atmosphere within academic and movement classes alike is one of constant uplift and encouragement between both students and professors. I’ve met some of my lifelong best friends in the dance department and watch new friendships be formed each year as new students arrive. We are all truly a family.

Do you participate in any community cultural activities or work in the Charlotte arts or design community? If so, please describe.
I am a volunteer YoungLife Leader for the Christian organization that is directed through UNC Charlotte but does ministry across the entire Charlotte-metro area. I lead specifically at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis where I get to invest in the lives of high school girls, organize weekly events for them to attend, take them on weekend and week-long retreats and most importantly, help them grow in their faith.

When you are not in class, studying, working or rehearsing, what do you like to do for fun?
I live for watching a sunset, reading in a good coffee shop, snuggling up for a movie, or listening to live music anywhere I can find it. When I have a good amount of spare time, I also really enjoy painting.
